HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The Community Projects of Havre de Grace was approved for the sale of alcohol at its Independence concert this July.
Organizers can sell beer, wine and seltzers at their July 3 concert at Hutchins Park, after the Harford County Liquor Control Board unanimously approved the proposal.
The concert is "one of our fundraising events," Nicolina Fournier, secretary of the Havre de Grace Independence Day Commission, told the liquor board. It will be held in a community pavilion at Hutchins Park off Congress Avenue.
The entrances and exits to the concert will be controlled, Fournier said, and snow fencing will enclose the area where alcohol is available.
To ensure the servers can focus on the task at hand, they will not be handling cash; rather, drinks can be purchased with tickets.
"We're going to be checking IDs," Fournier told the liquor board, adding: "You need a wristband to purchase alcohol."
Gates open at 5 p.m., and the concert is at 7 p.m., according to a flyer for the event, which says food and drinks will be available for purchase.
A concert at 7 p.m. will feature Love Seed Mama Jump, a band from Dewey Beach, Del.
"We expect the event to last about 5 to 9," Fournier said. "It's right before the fireworks."
In addition, a separate concert featuring the Maryland Military Band will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Concord Point Park.
Fireworks are slated for about 9:30 p.m. on the Susquehanna River.
