GLEN BURNIE, MD — A dirt bike driver succumbed to injuries that he sustained recently during a Glen Burnie crash, county police announced Tuesday.
Officers identified the victim as 36-year-old Jeremy Glen Yaruta of Baltimore. Authorities said he died Monday at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
The crash happened on May 11 around 8:40 p.m. The dirt bike was heading west on E. Ordnance Road and approaching its intersection with Blades Lane, a press release said.
A 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer was driving east on E. Ordnance road at the same time. Police said the the vehicles collided as the semi-truck made a left turn onto Blades Lane.
The dirt bike passenger then ran away, officers said. Authorities searched the area with a helicopter and a thermal drone, but they could not find the passenger.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department took the severely injured driver to shock trauma. The release said Yaruta, who was not wearing a helmet, died nearly two weeks later.
The commercial truck driver was not hurt.
The wreck happened in a dark area with few street lights. Police said the off-road dirt bike did not have headlights and the trucker did not see the biker.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department is still investigating. The agency did not speculate who was at fault.
