June 22 town hall on brain health in the African American community

The Alzheimer's Association will host a free town hall at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is held in the second floor lobby at 830 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, Md. 21202. Those who register before June 10 will receive a parking voucher. Arrive between 12 and 1:45 p.m. to take a self-guided tour of the museum. The symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and memory loss will be discussed and resources will be provided. "We know that Alzheimer's and other dementia affect African Americans at twice the rate as whites," says Marlyn Taylor, diversity and inclusion program manager for the Greater Maryland Chapter. "Knowing the warning signs of Alzheimer's leads to early detection which helps improve health outcomes." The impact and cost of Alzheimer'sIn Maryland, there are more than 110,000 people living with Alzheimer's diseae and other dementia. There are 242,000 caregivers providing more than 371,000,000 hours of unpaid care valued at $6,810,000,000. Those caregivers are primarily family members with 2/3 being women.
