Cobb County Receives First Coronavirus Vaccines

MARIETTA, GA — Cobb & Douglas Public Health received the first doses of the coronavirus vaccine last week and began providing vaccinations to staff from the CDPH Marietta campus who chose to be vaccinated, according to a press release from the CDPH. The coronavirus vaccine will then be administered to district health care personnel on the front-lines of the pandemic, as well as residents of long-term care facilities. As of Dec. 28, more than 125,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and more than 150,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine have been shipped to Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. "After 10 very long months of fighting this virus on the front lines, CDPH is so excited to be able to provide some protection to our district health care workers so that they can continue to serve our residents while also protecting themselves and their families," CDPH District Health Director Janet Memark said in the press release. Cobb County's first responders also started receiving the first round of vaccinations last week, the press release said. Members of the Cobb Fire Department's command staff received the first vaccines, and the department's members can voluntarily take the vaccination over the next 16 days. Cobb County Public Safety was one of the first groups in Georgia to receive the vaccine, according to the release. Those receiving the shot are being monitored for adverse reactions, with no issues being reported so far.
