SAN RAFAEL, CA — An attempted murder suspect was arrested Wednesday morning after leading authorities on a pursuit in West Marin, San Rafael Police said. Nicholas Wambach, 24 of Valley Springs (Calaveras County), was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of a 55-year-old female relative, police said. The woman was hospitalized with stab wounds and is expected to survive, police said. Wambach was hospitalized with significant injuries that are not life-threatening after crashing into a retaining wall at the end of the pursuit, police said. Officers at around 5:40 a.m. responded to a report of a stabbing in the 600 block of Woodbine Drive. After locating the victim, officers immediately identified Wambach as the suspect and broadcast identifying information about him to Marin law enforcement partners, police said. Marin County Sheriff's Deputy at around 6:45 a.m. located the suspect vehicle driving on Point Reyes Petaluma Road near Nicasio Valley Road, but the suspect vehicle fled when deputies attempted to stop him, police said. The 37-minute pursuit ended near Shoreline Highway at Pacific Way (near the Muir Beach parking lot) after Wambach lost control of his vehicle and collided with a concrete retaining wall, police said. The California Highway Patrol assisted Sheriff's deputies with the arrest, police said. Wambach as of Tuesday afternoon was in-custody while hospitalized and will be booked at the Marin County Jail on attempted murder charges, police said. Police said the investigation of this case is ongoing.
