San Mateo Police Step Up Patrols Of Schools After Texas Shooting

SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo police officers are conducting "frequent and high visibility passing checks" of all schools in the city out of an abundance of caution following a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 children and two teachers on Tuesday. There are no known threats in San Mateo, the police department said in a news release Wednesday. Youth Service Officers were also checking in and walking the various campuses, according to the news release. Related: 'Enough!' This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder that we must work collaboratively to ensure the safety of our children. The San Mateo Police Department remains committed to working with local school districts, public safety agencies, parents, children and all our of residents to ensure the well-being of our young people," said San Mateo Police Chief Ed Barberini. A vigil is planned Wednesday evening in Foster City.
