PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police are keeping an increased presence at Plainfield Central High School for the remainder of the day on Thursday after rumors of a possible threat against the school Thursday morning police said. Police officials did not give specifics about the nature of the rumor but said in a social media post on Thursday afternoon that the school administration took immediate steps to protect the student body and worked with the police department to investigate the threat, police said. Officials determined that following a thorough investigation, the threat was not substantiated. In a letter to parents, District 202 officials said that the school was informed of a rumor of a possible threat in the building on Thursday morning. The school was immediately put into a Hold in Place and the threat was investigated by High School officials and the Plainfield Police Department. The threat was found to be not credible and the Hold in Place was lifted and students were released to their regularly scheduled classes. "As always, the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority and we are very lucky and grateful to have a great relationship with all our public safety partners," District 202 officials said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. School officials said they would not comment further on the rumored threat. The rumors of the threat came two days after 19 children and two teachers were killed in a mass shooting at a Texas elementary school.
