The event is presented by St. Louis County Library Foundation's Westfall Politics & History Series. Wednesday, June 1, at 7:00 p.m. at the JCC's Staenberg Family Center – Mirowitz Performing Arts Center, 2 Millstone Campus Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146. The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event from Left Bank Books. "Offering a compelling peek behind the curtain of the speechwriting process, 'Undelivered' provides a real life look into histories that never were. Fascinating and immensely insightful."–Jake Tapper, CNN anchor For almost every delivered speech, there exists an undelivered opposite. These "second speeches" provide alternative histories of what could have been if not for schedule changes, changes of heart, or momentous turns of events. In "Undelivered," political speechwriter Jeff Nussbaum presents the most notable speeches the public never heard, from Dwight Eisenhower's apology for a D-Day failure to Richard Nixon's refusal to resign the presidency, and even Hillary Clinton's acceptance for a 2016 victory—the latter never seen until now. Examining the content of these speeches and the context of the historic moments that almost came to be, Nussbaum considers not only what they tell us about the past, but also what they can inform us about our present. Jeff Nussbaum is a senior speechwriter for President Joe Biden. Prior to that, he was a partner at West Wing Writers, the premier strategy and speechwriting shop in Washington, D.C. As a founder of The Humor Cabinet, he has worked on humor speeches for dozens of elected officials and corporate executives. He has served as a creative consultant for the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Jeff has also played an integral role in the past six Democratic National Conventions. In 2008 Jeff served as Vice President Joe Biden's speechwriter on the first Obama-Biden campaign. From 2001 to 2004, Jeff served as Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle's deputy communications director and speechwriter. Prior to that, he served as a speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore in the White House, and later as a senior speechwriter for Gore-Lieberman 2000. Program sites are accessible. With at least two weeks' notice, accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities. Call 314-994-3300 or contact us. This press release was produced by the St. Louis County Library.
