JOLIET, IL — A 25-year-old Joliet man who lives in the 700 block of Patterson Road was booked into the Will County Jail after he attacked a woman Tuesday evening during a domestic violence incident right outside the Joliet police station, police said. One of the Joliet Police Explorers tried to help the woman escape, but he was attacked by Carrington Johnson, according to Joliet police reports. "Johnson then began to fight with the adult male, placing the member of the Explorer program in a rear chokehold to the point of nearly losing consciousness," police spokesman Dwayne English indicated. Other officers got to the scene and took Johnson into custody. Both of the victims received minor injuries. Johnson has been charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery. Tuesday's incident happened at 6:06 p.m. on the sidewalk outside the downtown Joliet police on Washington Street. Johnson came to the area to exchange personal property with a woman he previously had a romantic relationship, according to police reports. "During this encounter, Johnson attacked the female adult victim and placed her in a chokehold to the point of losing consciousness," English announced. "This confrontation ... was witnessed by a member of the Joliet Police Department Explorer program, who attempted to intervene and stop the attack on the female victim long enough that she could escape."
