Press release from Upstate Medical University: Thursday, May 26, 2022 Upstate's podcast has a new name – "The Informed Patient" – and a new feature. Transcripts of the interviews are now posted along with the audio files at upstate.edu/informed. The podcasts are also available through Apple podcasts, iHeartRadio and a variety of other podcast platforms. Featuring guests with ties to Upstate Medical University or Central New York, "The Informed Patient" covers a range of health, science and medical topics. The guests are experts in their fields who explain their topics in everyday language. The podcast is for people who are curious about medicine and want to live healthy lives. "Most of us will be patients someday, and 'The Informed Patient' name captures what we have always seen as our mission, to help inform people in the community," said Amber Smith, who hosts the show. Smith and producer Jim Howe were journalists before joining Upstate's marketing department. Content from the podcast also is broadcast on the "HealthLink on Air" radio show, which airs at 6 a.m. Sundays on WRVO Public Media. WRVO programming is livestreamed at wrvo.org and broadcast on these FM stations: 89.9 Oswego/Syracuse, 90.3 Syracuse, 89.3 Clayton, 91.7 Watertown, 91.9 Utica, 90.5 Fenner, 90.1 Hamilton, 90.5 Cortland, 90.7 Geneva, 92.5/104.5 Ithaca, 89.9 Norwich, and 92.3 Rome. The hourlong "HealthLink on Air" show has been produced since 2006. "The Informed Patient" website houses an archive of podcast episodes, searchable by topic or by guest name. Also available on the website are full episodes of "HealthLink on Air"; excerpts from Upstate's literary and visual arts journal, "The Healing Muse"; and a collection of brief answers to common health questions called "Expert Advice."
