Description
I'm not sure if it's a male or female (I think it's a female). I don't know how old it is.
The kitten and mum were hiding under our barn until about 5 or 6 weeks ago. I was able to catch and relocate them to an XL 48x32 dog kennel with their own cat house, litter box, bed etc where she could safely nurse the kitten on our back porch (much safer). They seemed content enough at first, but the mum ran away/ disappeared about 2-3 weeks ago. I thought she would come back or hang around because of the kitten, but she seems to be gone for good. The kitten has been living on its own ever since. It uses the litter box and has transitioned to hard foods.
I'm severely allergic to cats so I can't keep it indoors (not safe outdoors here), but it's definitely old enough to survive without nursing at this point. I've been afraid to let it out of its safe space due to the mother disappearing (presumably she became a meal for a predatory animal, yikes)... so the poor kitten just sits around eating and napping all day and needs more consistent socialization with a free space for exercise. It's very friendly once picked up, but may hiss when first approached, has never scratched or bitten though.
It's really cute, albeit destined for a different family. We have been providing food, litter and basic amenities... I've been cleaning its ears and eyes and it seems to be free of fleas, mites, and parasites. The kitten needs an owner that plans to provide a "forever" home, and can afford to provide the appropriate vet visits for checkups, shots and spay/neuter when the time comes.
