JOB SUMMARY: As the Mechanic, you will need to troubleshoot equipment problems, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components. The successful candidate will carry out preventative maintenance and repairs on yard equipment to ensure that everything is always working. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Routine servicing and overhauling of all yard equipment. Inspect, repair, and adjust diesel power units, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other equipment. Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area. Good troubleshooting skills in electrical and mechanical areas. Ensuring the proper handling of all equipment and tools. Completes various assignments and projects as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Have your own basic tools. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time. Work in various types of weather conditions. Basic Electrical Wiring Troubleshoot Equipment Problems (including Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic Components). Knowledge of Diesel Engines & Systems Knowledge of Air Powered Tools & Pumps Experience with forms of Heavy Equipment (Loaders, Skid Steers, Trucks, Etc.) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school education or GED. Diesel-powered equipment, Air Compressor, Forklift, and Pump repair experience is a plus but not required. Three (3) or more years of experience, preferably in a heavy industrial or commercial type industry. Must have a clean Drivers Record (3-5 years). Must be able to obtain a TWIC card. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS. Must be able to lift 80+ pounds, crawl, stoop, bend, and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects. Must be able to pick up 55-gallon drums. Must be physically able to perform the requirements of the job. WORKING CONDITIONS. Repetitive, physical work. Regularly exposed to dusty conditions, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, ambient weather conditions, hazardous machinery, precarious places, and proximity to other employees. To avoid injury, safety clothing is required along with safety devices to protect the eyes, head, or hearing. Shift work and overtime are involved most of the time. Travel may be required.
