ALL VOTERS BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT NEED TO COME TOGETHER AND DEMAND THAT THE LOBBYIST NOT HAVE A STRANGLE-HOLD ON OUR POLITICIANS AND AMERICAN LAW. It's that pesky thing called the second amendment of the US Constitution. If you can get three quarters of the States in the Union you can change it so only the Government has control of who and what type of guns you can have. It's called a "Constitutional Convention of the States." That isn't "right wing extremists", that is the law of the land since the beginning of the USA. Can you imagine how great it would have been if while President Obama was in office if he could have pulled that off? Just imagine if he was able to pass a federal law after the 2nd amendment had been repealed? He could have made a Federal Law where the guns of the citizens would be turned in and only the Federal Government decided who had guns and what type of guns they could have. That would have been heaven on earth! If that happened, I bet what happened in Texas this week would not have happened. What happens next...Oh yes! The Trump administration comes into power! Not only that, but all the people both left and right decide the only way they get their guns back is to vote for Republicans. Considering right now there are legally purchased guns for every man, woman and child in the US, I imagine that would be quite a few people. Possibly enough for a super majority in the house and the Senate. If that happened...Would you trust Trump with that kind of power? Would you willingly give that kind of power to Puten who "...helped Trump get into office."? That is what you believe, right? If that was the case, wouldn't Trump become a real dictator and stay in power forever? Obama would never have done that, we know, but Trump? I'm also a Montanan. I don't know your age, but I'm guessing well under thirty. I'm well over fifty. When I went to school, we used to bring our guns to school like, "Show and Tell" It didn't matter what type of gun it was as long as we could shoot it after school. We even used shotguns IN school shooting blank shot for theater sound effects during plays. As time rolled on I'm sure towns and cities got more restrictive and enacted "common sense gun laws." Throughout all my years all over the country, especially after a horrible event, "common sense gun laws" became more and more common. If we really want to talk "common sense" then I suppose we should address the elephant in the room. Why is it when I was young, an event like Sandy Hook or in Texas never happened? Why is it that as the "common sense" gun laws became more and more restrictive, the incidents like Texas became more and more common? Guns during my youth didn't change from today. Getting shot from a.22 pistol can get you just as dead as a semi automatic "assault" (LOL) rifle. Truth be told, you would feel just as assaulted if you were shot with a single shot.22 as you would with a "military style" (LOL) rifle. What happened? The laws changed but do you feel safe or feel your children are more protected? I don't get that sense from your post. I do not think the laws are the only thing that can protect our children. I'm pretty sure that school was a "Gun-Free" zone as most mass shooting incidents are. It's common sense to me someone likely to do monstrous things like that tend to ignore law or policy. I think WE changed as a culture. Most of these monsters came from a single parent broken home. Most of these young men never had a father around or at the very best had an abusive father. I'm not saying if you are raised by a single mother or elderly grandparent you are going to end up as a mass shooter (although most horrible ones were indeed in that situation). Statistically, you are more likely to end up in prison if you are male. More likely to have domestic violence issues and more likely with chemical dependency. Women's rights? Single women have a hard road ahead of them. They don't make a lot of money, end up on government support (just enough to get by, never advance out of poverty). Today, single women with children is becoming far more common than when I was a young man. They are lauded and praised. They have television shows and movies about their strength and their courage. Today a young man with the title "Baby Daddy" with multiple women is culturally praised when in fact he should be ashamed. He strikes the match of the tragic fire about to burn a village. I think you could do more about this problem by addressing the beginning of the problem rather than a prop of the problem. I think you will contribute more to the solution by having your own stable family rather than trying to fix a nation. You are the solution when your children have two parents they rely on for love, discipline and guidance so they can be successful in life. You get a bonus if your children's desire is to achieve the same goal. For far too long we've allowed too many women to let the government be the father of these children and take away the responsibility of the men who should be caring for all of them. The man who makes single mothers and the government are shitty fathers. If the government can't even be a good father, Why would you ever trust it caring for your protection? Why would you let it be the only one with a gun?
