SWAMPSCOTT, MA — The Swampscott Summer Theater Program is looking to create a little drama for young students on the North Shore during their time off from school. The program is returning this year for students entering grades 3 through 9. It is scheduled for July 5 through Aug. 4 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Swampscott High School. "We encourage kids who love musical theater to join us for a summer of singing, dancing and acting," Swampscott Summer Theater Assistant Director/Producer Kayla LeClerc told Patch. "We also play theater games, build sets, and design costume pieces and props for our production." This summer's show is "The Addams Family Younger@Part" — a 30-minute edition of the popular Broadway musical, which is edited for time and content, that's designed for young performers. LeClerc said young students are welcome without any theater or performance experience. "This is a fun way for kids to meet others that enjoy musical theater," LeClerc said. "Together they learn to work as part of a team and showcase their talents on and off the stage." The performance is set for Aug. 4 at 11:30 a.m. in the Swampscott High School auditorium. More information on the program can be found here. (Scott Souza is a Patch field editor covering Beverly, Danvers, Marblehead, Peabody, Salem and Swampscott. He can be reached at [email protected].
