Ferndale Farmstead is searching for smart and motivated individuals to join team and help us produce some of the best award-winning cheeses in the Northwest. Cheesemaking is equal parts physical and mental and very dynamic. The ideal candidate will be able to put in a hard day's work, learn quickly, think on the fly, and have strong attention to detail. Responsibilities include but are not limited to for each cheesemaker level: Cheesemaker 1 Job Responsibilities: Perform basic job duties as a cheesemaker by: o Properly practicing all Good Manufacturing Practices o Understanding of the Master Sanitation Checklist and Daily Checklists o Understanding basic FFC Affinage including washing & flipping of cheeses o Understand all sanitation and expectations of a cheesemaker Cheesemaker 2 Job Responsibilities: Perform elevated job duties as a cheesemaker by: o Understanding basic cheesemaking operations o Full training in basic cheese machine operation o Ability to understand all SSOP’s and follow instructions for tasks outside of job description o Ability to perform elevated tasks such as inventory, CIP, packaging equipment, vat control, or shipping and receiving Cheesemaker 3 Job Responsibilities: Perform advanced job duties as a cheesemaker by: o Receive milk, perform Appendix N tests for antibiotics o Pasteurize milk and fill the vats, separate milk o Run make from start to finish o Fully trained in all machine operation o Able to fill all cheesemaking positions in the plant ALL CHEESEMAKERS Require progressive understanding of GMPs, Food Safety System including Traceability, Production and Affinage, and Quality Control processes such as batch tagging and inventory movement. Dedication to these systems is a requirement in this environment! Requirements: • Must be +18 years or older • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment • Must be able to follow & take directions • Must be able to multi-task • Strong communication skills • Strong work ethic and motivation • Excellent attendance, reliability, and initiative • Desire for long-term learning and skill-building • Must have reliable transportation (NOT NEGOTIABLE) • Prior sanitation or food manufacturing experience preferred, but not required • Positive attitude and reliable attendance • Willing to work collaboratively with the team, as well as efficiently with little supervision • Strict adherence with food safety standards • Able to work in a humid & hot environment, • lift up to 50 lbs, climb, stoop, crouch and kneel as needed Schedule: Monday – Saturday 40hrs/week, however due to seasonality peak season hours will increase Pay Ranges based on Cheesemaker Levels 1, 2, & 3 ranges anywhere between $16.00 - $25 and based on experience Benefits: Medical, Sick, Vacation, Holiday, End of the Year Bonus Program, Overtime pay
