BELLEVUE, WA — Overlake Medical Center & Clinics picked up a prestigious award this week, claiming a spot on Newsweek's 2022 rankings of the best maternity hospitals in the nation. The publication works with data firm Statista to rate medical centers across the United States.
The number of ribbons awarded is based on a number of factors, including an online survey of healthcare professionals and hospital managers, patient surveys, and key performance indicators for the quality of maternity care.
Overlake earned five ribbons, the highest possible rating for its maternity operation, joining the ranks of 350 hospitals across the nation and just two others in Washington: Swedish Issaquah and Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.
"Overlake is extremely honored to be recognized by Newsweek for our exemplary maternity care," said Sandy Salmon, the hospital's director of women's and infant services. "Our Childbirth Center staff is dedicated to providing the best possible birth experience for every family that walks through our doors. This award validates all their hard work and efforts to become the premier destination to give birth in the Pacific Northwest."
Newsweek's full America's Best Maternity Hospitals 2022 report is posted online, and hospitals are listed alphabetically. Overall, 161 facilities earned five ribbons, and 189 received four ribbons.
