RESTON, VA — A patron at the the North Shore Pool was hospitalized after experiencing a medical emergency on Sunday afternoon, according to a statement from the Reston Association.
"An older male was swimming laps at the pool when he suffered a medical emergency," according to a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.
Lifeguards and staff at the pool, which is located at 11515 North Shore Drive, noticed the man experiencing a medical emergency around 12:45 p.m., and began performing CPR and administered an automated external defibrillator until emergency personnel arrived. The man regained consciousness and was transported to Reston Hospital for treatment. As of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, RA did not have any further information about the condition of the man.
North Shore Pool was temporarily closed on Sunday due to the emergency but reopened at 2:30 p.m., according to the release.
"Reston Association employs American Red Cross certified lifeguards at its aquatics facilities,"RA spokesman Mike Leone said, in a statement. "Our staff is trained to initiate an Emergency Action Plan in the event of an accident or medical emergency. The safety of our patrons is our first priority."
