Volunteers Collect 48 Pounds Of Trash From Dunedin Causeway

DUNEDIN, FL — Nearly 50 billion pieces of litter are scattered along U.S. roadways and waterways each year, according to Keep America Beautiful. In Dunedin, residents are doing their part to keep their community trash free. Blue-Green Connections and Keep Pinellas Beautiful organized the 2022 Hands Across the Sand on the Dunedin Causeway on Saturday. Volunteers collected 48 pounds of litter. During the event, they also held hands in solidarity to oppose offshore drilling and promote the health of the Gulf Coast. Under Florida law, a person who dumps up to 15 pounds of litter could face a $150 fine. Anyone who dumps litter that weighs more than that could be charged with a misdemeanor. In addition, the court may require the violator to pick up litter or perform other labor commensurate with the offense committed. Pictures from the weekend event:
