STRATFORD - In celebration of its 90th anniversary since its founding in 1932, Sterling House Community Center is planning two events in June. On Saturday, June 4, and in conjunction with the Town of Stratford's annual Main Street Festival, Sterling House will host a "Birthday Bash" that is open and free to the public. "We want to celebrate our 90th anniversary with everyone," noted Sterling House Executive Director Amanda Meeson, "and have some family fun." Then on the following Saturday, June 11, the organization will be hosting its annual Evening of Music event that this year is being dubbed, "Dancin' into 90" and featuring Band Central, who will perform outdoors on the evening of June 11 on the Shakespeare grounds. BIRTHDAY BASH FAMILY FUN The Sterling House "Birthday Bash" is intended as a free "day of family fun," and will feature refreshments, carnival games, bounce house, contests, music and more. "We wanted to have something the whole family can enjoy," Meeson said, and one that does not cost to attend and enjoy. The Birthday Bash will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of Sterling House, 2283 Main St., Stratford. No reservations are required. DANCIN' INTO 90 Band Central will again be the featured performers at the "Dancin' into 90" musical event on the Shakespeare grounds, Elm Street, Stratford. Playing a combination of the Best of Motown, Muscle Shoals and a smattering of the British Invasion of the 1960s, Band Central features performers Joe Gray, Jean Marie Rivera, John Torres, Crispin, Cioe, Bill Carbone, Cyrus Madan, Scott White and Rob Fried. Band Central is a local nonprofit that channels "the power of live music" to support a host of Fairfield County based charities, including Sterling House. Formerly known as Band Together, Band Central was the recent recipient of the 2021 Community Partner of the Year Award given by the Center for Family Justice, Bridgeport. The band has performed for nearly a decade in fundraising performances benefitting Sterling House Community Center and its programs and services including Food Pantry and Resource Connection programs. Since its inception, the band has raised millions of dollars aiding scores of Fairfield County based non-profits with its upbeat, theme-based concerts. "We are so pleased to have Rob and the whole band here again benefitting Sterling House," said Meeson. "Their dedication to the causes of local non-profits is only matched by its fantastic musical performances." Tickets to the "Dancin' into 90" event cost $50 per person, with all proceeds going to Sterling House programs and services.
