Increased Police Presence Expected At Norwalk Schools Wednesday

NORWALK, CT — There will be an increased police presence around the Norwalk Public Schools district at least for Wednesday following the shooting in Uvalde, Texas that left at least 19 students and two adults dead at an elementary school. In a post on the Norwalk Public Schools Facebook page Tuesday night, district officials addressed the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas. "News like this deeply impacts us all, no matter what the location. Our hearts and prayers are with the entire Uvalde County community tonight," the post reads. "Please know that there is nothing more important than the safety of our schools. To make sure our students and staff feel safe, all Norwalk schools will reinforce our existing safety protocols, and will be extra vigilant [Wednesday] and over the next several days. Our partners at the Norwalk Police Department will also have a more visible presence at our schools as well." Norwalk police also said on Facebook the department would remain vigilant this week. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the staff and students of Robb Elementary School, their friends and family, the first responders at the scene and the community at large," the post reads. "Expect an increased presence of Norwalk police officers at our schools; we remain vigilant." District officials also acknowledged news of Tuesday's shooting could cause anxiety and stress in children and families of Norwalk. "Our administrators, teachers and counselors will be keeping a close eye on our children in the coming days," the post reads. "If you feel like your child would benefit from extra support at any time, please let your school know. We are always available to connect you with a school counselor or with a community provider as needed."
