Press release from Shreve Memorial Library: May 24, 2022 Shreve Memorial Library, in partnership with the YWCA of Northwest Louisiana, presents "Parenting with a Passion" at Shreve Memorial Library Hollywood/Union Avenue Branch on Thursday, May 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The program will take place in the meeting room at the branch, located at 2105 Hollywood Avenue. YWCA staff of trained Nurturing Parenting facilitators will teach parents skills to communicate positively with children in a respectful way. The class is free and available to parents and those hoping to become parents. "Parenting with a Passion" will cover topics of stress and anger management, positive discipline, understanding feelings, building self-worth in children, and communicating with respect. Also included in the program are discussions of nutrition, self-awareness, developing nurturing routines, CPR, ways to reward behavior and positive discipline techniques, along with teen-mom parenting skills for teen girls who have children and who are expecting a child. The YWCA's Nurturing Parenting program provides family-centered, trauma-informed information designed to build nurturing parenting skills as an alternative to abusive and neglecting parenting and child-rearing practices.
