HAMDEN, CT — A dog was rescued from a house fire Wednesday afternoon in Hamden, according to fire officials. Crews responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Colonial Drive around 1:50 p.m., according to Hamden Fire Marshal Brian Dolan. Dispatchers received numerous phone calls from neighbors and passing motorists reporting the fire, according to Dolan. The first-arriving crews arrived within three minutes of dispatch and reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house, Dolan said. "A primary search of the home was done and the family dog was rescued and secured in the backyard," Dolan wrote in a news release. "Crews began battling an attic fire that had started above the bathroom. The fire was quickly extinguished and crews remained on scene performing overhaul operations and checking for any further fire extension." The Hamden Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
