Press release from the Boulder Valley School District: May 23, 2022 Boulder Valley School District's Grad Plus program was built on the idea that every student should graduate from high school in BVSD with more than a diploma. A traditional diploma signifies a student has achieved the basic requirements of course completion and state performance measures in math and language arts. Grad Plus aims to expand graduate's skill sets by providing every student with learning opportunities and credentials that offer a head start on a career, postsecondary education, or both. As the Grad Plus program implementation begins this fall, the goal is that every student, beginning in Pre-K through graduation, begins learning about work, are exposed to career pathways, participate in work-based learning, earn certifications and more. Grad Plus Program Requirements By their graduation date, every BVSD student completes one or more: Advanced Placement course, International baccalaureate course or Concurrent/Dual enrollment course Seal of Biliteracy Industry Certification Internship, Apprenticeship, Other work-based learning experience Grad Plus is intended to break down barriers between traditional academics and career and technical education, allowing students to maximize the credentials they earn across multiple quadrants. For example, a student may complete AP US Government and Politics, earn a seal of Biliteracy in Spanish and participate in an internship with a local government agency. Or a student might complete AP Biology, complete the Emergency Medical Responder concurrent enrollment course, earn a Seal of Biliteracy, and earn industry certificates in first aid, CPR and Emergency Medical Responder. All of the credentials are viewed as equally prestigious, and the credentials a student decides to pursue should be driven by their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP).
