Town Renames Massapequa Street 'Mighty Madison Way'

MASSAPEQUA, NY — The Town of Oyster Bay ceremonially renamed Cleveland Avenue in Massapequa in memory of "Mighty" Madison Milio. Town officials were joined by Madison's parents, Kristen and Michael, as well as Madison's brother, Dylan. Diagnosed with an extremely rare brain tumor that affects only 300 children per year, Madison battled for her life with her family by her side — inspiring the entire Massapequa community with her strength and determination each day — but lost her battle with cancer on Dec. 2, 2021 at the age of nine. "We gather to celebrate the life and memory of an amazing little girl, 'Mighty' Madison Milio, who grew up on this very block," said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. "Despite being taken from us at a very early age, Mighty Madison left behind a lifetime legacy of caring, compassion, joy and selflessness. That comes as no surprise as Madison was born into a family that is strong in their beliefs. Faith was Madison's middle name, and her legacy will forever live on because of her faith in God. This street dedication stands in memory of Madison's legacy and the groundswell of support and love she received from her family and the Massapequa community. 'Mighty Madison Way' will forever serve as a permanent reminder of Madison's ability to bring sunshine and joy to everyone around her." Madison was born on Sept. 21, 2012, attended Lockhart Elementary School and, in many ways, was like every other kid in the neighborhood. She was diagnosed on April 1, 2019 with an extremely rare brain tumor known as D.I.P.G., affecting only 300 children per year. Madison underwent radiation therapy and took part in medical trials. As Madison battled for her life with her family by her side, she inspired the entire Massapequa community, who came out to support her in every way possible. It is in the name of Mighty Madison that experts hope to find a cure for D.I.P.G. Many medical experts believe that the lessons learned from fighting D.I.P.G. may provide critical first steps in winning the battle against all forms of cancer.
