UNION CITY, CA — A man who died in a Union City crash Sunday afternoon has been identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau as Monte Smith, Sr., 39, of Berkeley. His cause of death was not released. The single car accident happened in a parking lot at 950 Whipple Road. Police received a call at about 2:40 p.m. about the crash. They arrived to find the driver unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead by paramedics.
