LILE in Illinois is pleased to partner with Elgin Community College Foundation to host the First Annual Scholarship Luncheon Sept 22, 2022
We are pleased to have Iris Y. Martinez as our inaugural guest speaker. Herself a Primera, she was the first Latina elected to the IL State Senate, she is also the first Latina to be elected Clerk of the Cook County Court. She knows what it means to be a trailblazer.
Latinas in Law Enforcement in Illinois has launched the project called "Las Primeras: the History of Latinas in Law Enforcement in Illinois." The stories of service and sacrifice made by those pioneers who came before us and on whose shoulders we now stand.
This year, LILE will be co-hosting the First Annual Scholarship Fundraising event to help encourage and support Latinas who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, with the support of the Hispanic Illinois State Law Enforcement Association and the International Association of Women Police.
We are especially pleased that Dolores Huerta, icon of the social justice movement, will be sending us greetings and congratulations for our efforts via video.
