Plainfield students earn scholarships at Central College Central College students and donors were recognized during the annual scholarship dinner. Daniel DeVenuto of Plainfield received the William & Marie De Jong Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year for a high commitment to academic achievement. DeVenuto is a member of the class of 2022 at Central in Pella, Iowa. Anthony Cervelli of Plainfield received the Verda Vander Pol Scholarship, the Froelich Scholarship and the Journey Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year for a high commitment to academic achievement. Cervelli is a member of the class of 2022 at Central in Pella, Iowa. The Scholarship Celebration also recognized the generous alumni, parents, friends faculty and staff who support scholarships for Central students. It may be accessed at central.edu/perkins-scholarship. — Merit Page News Carson Koziel makes presentation at Alma College Honors Day Carson Koziel of Plainfield, IL was among the more than 100 Alma College students who participated in Alma College's 26th annual Kapp Honors Day program on Thursday, April 7, 2022. This day provides a forum when traditional classes are canceled and students share their original research, creativity and talents with an audience of their peers. In sessions spanning nearly eight hours, students perform in dance productions, give oral presentations of scholarly research, and lead poster discussions. With a multitude of the student body participating, other students are encouraged to attend as many presentations as possible both to support their fellow students and to learn from them. Koziel is majoring in general studies. Presentation title: "The Puppet-Master: How Strong Executives Manipulate the Legislature" — Merit Page News Plainfield student finishes college at Utah State University Parker Sonnenberg (from 60585) is a candidate to graduate from Utah State University with a(n) Bachelor of Science in Economics. Sonnenberg is eligible to earn a degree from Utah State University and is among the 6,588 students eligible to receive degrees and certificates from USU's statewide campuses or USU Online. The 2022 graduating class includes graduates from summer and fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters. — Merit Page News Student from Plainfield named UW-Whitewater Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Jake Farley, a native of Plainfield, IL, and graduate of Plainfield North High School, is one of 59 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student-athletes recognized by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Interim Chancellor John Chenoweth as 2021-22 Chancellor's Scholar-Athletes Presented by Northwestern Mutual. Farley, a member of the men's soccer team at UW-Whitewater, is majoring in general management. Each Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete was recognized in a ceremony Tuesday at the James R. Connor University Center by Director of Athletics Ryan Callahan and Chancellor Chenoweth. To be recognized as Scholar-Athletes, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade point average or above through the end of the 2021 fall semester. Honorees must have participated in a varsity sport for two years, must be of senior academic status and must have accumulated at least 90 degree credits. — Merit Page News Kevin Yang named to president's list at Bob Jones University Kevin Yang, a sophomore middle school education major from Plainfield, was among over 620 Bob Jones University students named to the Spring 2022 President's List. The President's List recognizes students who earn a 3.75 or higher grade point average for the semester. — Merit Page News Kaitlyn Kowalski Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Kaitlyn Kowalski of Plainfield, Illinois, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Kowalski was initiated at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Kowalski is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction. — Merit Page News Plainfield student selected All-Conference for UW-Whitewater Softball Meghan Dunning, a native of Plainfield, IL, is one of six members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team who were named All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2022 season. Pitcher Rhiann Dick (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and shortstop Meghan Dunning (Plainfield, Ill./South) garnered first-team honors. Both were second-team selections in 2021. Dunning batted .333 with a team-high five home runs, tied for fifth in the WIAC, and a .429 on-base percentage in 28 games played. She totaled 14 runs scored and 11 RBIs and drew 11 walks. All six players helped the Warhawks post their 16th consecutive 20-win season and reach the WIAC Tournament, where head coach Brenda Volk secured her 700th career victory. UW-W finished with a 7-7 league record during the regular season, including a 2-0 mark against eventual conference tournament champion UW-Eau Claire. — Merit Page News
