An intimate exhibition featuring the photography of community health workers on the frontlines of building trust and delivering medical care #TrustWorkers: (Re)Building Relationships between New Yorkers and the Medical System(Información en español está abajo.) The Trust Project at the Interdisciplinary Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics (INCITE) and Columbia University is pleased to invite you to the Opening Night of our Community Health Worker Photovoice Exhibition “#TrustWorkers: (Re)Building Relationships between New Yorkers and the Medical System.” The exhibition will feature the intimate photographic narratives of Community Health Workers (CHWs) who work at the frontlines of building trust and providing medical care to New Yorkers. Join us on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM in the East Atrium at The Forum @ Columbia, located at 125th and Broadway. The exhibition will be free and open to the public. Drinks and appetizers will be provided during the Opening Night. The event program will include testimonials from local Community Healthcare Workers and remarks from health experts and New York City community leaders, including: Dr. Olusimbo Ige, Assistant Commissioner, NYC Department of Health and Mental HygieneDr. Elizabeth Cohn, Associate Dean for Research, Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, CUNYEleanor Larrier, CEO for Bronx Community Health Network Dr. Gil Eyal, Professor of Sociology, Columbia University, Principle Investigator at the Trust Project And more!In partnership with the Bronx Community Health Network and partners at Hunter College and Weill Cornell CTSC, this exhibition explores firsthand accounts of how CHWs have served diverse communities by providing access and information about health, nutrition, public services, vaccination and more. In doing so, CHWs build important trust relationships between the communities they serve, the medical establishment, and the City’s public institutions. The goal of this exhibition is to raise awareness of the critical work of CHWs as “trusted mediators” in the nation’s public health system and catalyze an overdue conversation about community health, trust and mistrust in medical science, and pathways for reforms. En colaboración con Bronx Community Health Network y los socios del Hunter College y Weill Cornell CTSC, esta exposición explora los relatos de primera mano de los promotores de salud y los servicios que brindan a diversas comunidades, facilitando el acceso e información sobre salud, nutrición, servicios públicos, vacunación y mucho más. De este modo, los promotores establecen importantes relaciones de confianza entre las comunidades a las que atienden, el sistema de salud y las instituciones públicas de la ciudad. Con esta exposición se intenta generar conciencia sobre la labor fundamental de los promotores como "mediadores de confianza" en el sistema de salud pública del país, para así catalizar una conversación que ya debería haberse producido sobre la salud de la comunidad, la confianza y la desconfianza en la ciencia médica y en las vías de reforma.
