How did freedom come to Stagville? Join us for a free tour exploring the history of emancipation on one of the largest plantations in NC. A guided tour highlighting how enslaved people claimed their freedom in 1865. Tours are free, but require advanced registration! Historic Stagville offers these special tours leading up to our annual commemoration of Juneteenth. The tour explores the detailed history of emancipation on one of North Carolina's largest plantations. Hear stories of how formerly enslaved families celebrated, defended themselves, and organized, while the plantation owners strategized to hold on to their power and wealth. These tours are intended for adult and for children over 12. Tours will be mostly outdoors, with two short stops at historic buildings. The route includes walking over grass, gravel, and uneven ground. Be prepared for walking and weather.
