Explore the history of tastemaking in Old New Castle with an all-new guided walk around the neighborhood New this fall at the Read House & Gardens... Join us for a guided walk departing Saturdays and Sundays from the Read House steps. Tours begin with a look inside a few of our most iconic rooms and continue with an easy stroll along the town's storied cobblestone streets. You'll discover how the Read House and its inhabitants over the years were at the center of tastemaking, preservation, and the famously historic vibes of the New Castle we see it today. Health and safety are important to us. Please note: All visitors over the age of two are required to wear face coverings for the duration of the check-in time and tour. You will not be permitted on the tour without a face covering that complies with CDC guidelines. Complying with CDC guidelines means all face coverings must reach above the nose and below the chin to completely cover the mouth and nose. They must also fit snugly against the sides of the face.Physical distancing is required both when on the tour and visiting the Read House & Gardens grounds. Visitors should stay at least six feet from the tour guide and other groups.Please stay home if you are feeling sick. During the check-in process, the tour guide will use a contactless thermometer to take your temperature. If your body temperature exceeds 100.3 F you will be asked to return another day. If you know that you are sick, please email [email protected] at least 1 hour before your tour start time to reschedule your visit free of charge.No restrooms are available onsite at this time. Public restrooms are available nearby at Battery Park. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. We cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed to COVID-19 during your visit. Those visiting Read House & Gardens do so at their own risk of such exposure. Please meet at the Read House steps 5-10 minutes prior to the tour start time for check-in and be prepared to show either a digital or printed version of your ticket. In the case of inclement weather please check our website for potential cancellations. Tours will generally run rain or shine. In the event that weather prohibits a tour from going off, we will contact the registrant in your group via email to help reschedule your visit, free of charge.
