HAINESVILLE, IL — Funds are being raised for the family of a 41-year-old father killed when the dump truck he was driving was hit by a Metra train Monday morning near Grayslake.
As of Wednesday morning, nearly $3,900 has been brought in through a GoFundMe for the family of Jesus Castrejon. The funds will help Castrejon's family pay for his funeral and other associated memorial costs.
Any additional funds raised will be distributed to his three daughters, Amaya, 18; Victoria, 5; and Sophia, 4.
Castrejon is being remembered as a "beloved son, father, brother, uncle, and friend." Funeral arrangements have not yet been set, and those wishing to donate via the GoFundMe can do so here.
Castrejon, of Wheeling, died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, which happened just before 7 a.m. Monday near Route 120 and Hainesville Road near Grayslake, according to preliminary autopsy results released by the Lake County Coroner's Office.
The front car of the train went off the tracks after hitting the dump truck, according to WGN. One passenger on the train was taken away on a stretcher after suffering injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening.
Castrejon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crossing did not have any lights, gates or bells but did have a sign, Metra spokesman Michael Gillis told the Daily Herald. Extensive delays were reported on the Metra Milwaukee District North line following the collision, according to Metra.
