Chatham 8th Grader Earns 2nd Place In Robotics World Championship

CHATHAM, NJ — A Chatham Middle School 8th grader recently competed with his team in the 2002 VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas, returning with a division championship and a world title runner-up. Robot Revolution, based in Summit, is an after-school robotics program that launched the entire VEX IQ robotics program in New Jersey. The middle school team finished second out of 750 teams, winning their division and coming within 10 points of winning the world's largest robotic competition. The 8th-grade students traveled to Dallas, Texas, for the three-day event. The four team members are from Summit, Millburn and Chatham. This is the second year in a row that Robot Revolution has taken home trophies at worlds. In 2021, the high school team 4610S won an Innovate award for their robot design. Robot Revolution is a program that teaches students in grades 3 through 12 how to build, program and compete in robotics. In August, it will celebrate its tenth anniversary as the country's largest program of its kind. You can learn more about the program on Robot Revolution's website.
