Death Investigation Underway In Concord's South End

CONCORD, NH — Concord police have confirmed a check the welfare call on Sunday in the city's South End has turned into an unattended death investigation. Around 1 p.m., police and later, firefighters, were sent to an apartment on Fayette Street to check on a resident who a caller said they had not heard from in several days, dispatch said. When an officer arrived, the door to the apartment was locked. Later, she confirmed from a window that the man appeared to be dead. The officer requested firefighters come to the scene to gain access to the building. The death was confirmed around 1:15 p.m., according to scanner chatter. Police requested supplies from firefighters and were at the building for several hours taking evidence bags from the apartment. Two officers entered the apartment with oxygen masks on. Deputy Chief John Thomas of the Concord Police Department said the man appeared to have been dead for a while. He confirmed the man's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy. A dog owned by the man was brought to the Merrimack County SPCA.
