Description
LIVERMORE, CA — Officers with the Livermore police department were on the lookout on March 21 for motorcycle drivers violating traffic laws as part of its Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation.
The department said Tuesday 72 citations were issued mostly for speeding. One driver was cited for going 94 miles per hour on Isabel Avenue where the speed limit is 55 miles per hour.
Four vehicles of suspended or unlicensed drivers were impounded, the department said.
Extra patrols were on the roads from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
"Top crash factors for motorcycles are unsafe speed, improper turning, right-of-way violations, driving under the influence & unsafe lane changes," police officials said.
The Click it or Ticket campaign for 2022 started Monday and goes through June 5. The department said extra officers will again be on patrol. They'll be looking for people not wearing their seatbelts and also vehicles that have children who aren't secured in child safety seats.
Officers are also focusing on bike and pedestrian safety on the roads this month, reminding bicyclists that they have to follow the same rule as drivers.
Back in April, police gave 63 citations in two hours as part of a traffic enforcement effort labeled "Combined Intense Traffic Enforcement."
