Horticulture Technician McCaren Designs Saint Paul, MN 55114 Full-Time $15-19 per hour About McCaren Designs: McCaren Designs is an interior plantscape, exterior urbanscape and holiday decorating company with over 40 years of experience in the Twin Cities metro area. We specialize in creating memorable places and unique experiences through the creative use of tropical plants in both public and private office spaces. Summary of job: We are looking for a full-time horticulturist to maintain interior plants in our client’s premises in the southern and western Twin Cities metro area. A typical day for one of our horticulturists would be either to start out our facility situated just off University Ave in St Paul or from home. Where you will load up either your own vehicle or one of our service cars and drive to your designated accounts. The routes are different each day, some routes consist of fifteen smaller accounts, or another route could be one client campus, each day will be different. The route allocated to you will be repeated on a weekly or biweekly basis. When arriving onsite to a client space responsibility for caring for plants includes watering with appropriate soil moisture, cleaning/dusting, pruning/trimming, fertilizing and pest control. Notes should be made during service of what plants need replacing with replacement job orders to be created and plan for any extra work to be performed by install team. Check in with the client before leaving and moving on to the next account. Each account will be different and could have large trees, atrium spaces, vertical greenwalls or small flowering desk displays. One client maybe a public mall another client could include you going into the CEO's office of a Fortune Top 500 company. A love of plants and excellent customer service skills and self-confidence are a must. Associates degree or working knowledge and experience in Horticulture preferred. Always maintain company vehicle cleanliness, both interior and exterior. Adhering to company maintenance inspection procedures, reporting any issues and all accidents regardless of nature immediately and respecting legal speed limits as posted Understanding of proper horticultural techniques and willing to learn from knowledgeable team. Train will be provided onsite learn in accounts and in department meetings Detail oriented with ability to keep on a time schedule. Motivated to keep accounts looking at top quality. Able to communicate verbally and written to clients and team members Can work efficiently both individually and in a team with little supervision, making decisions with own initiative and assume responsibility for own work and performing tasks correctly to standards Able to use cell phones for communications Update and utilize customer management systems in daily work, keeping accurate and up-to-date records on all accounts Abel to explain technical issues of plants and issues to clients Project a “good company image” always with a professional appearance, good hygiene, and a clean uniform to our customers and public in and outside of work Professional mannerisms, appearance, and actions (self-confident and committed to high ethics) Ensure work sites are left in better condition than when we entered them at departure, ensuring no dirt, moss or debris is left behind upon completion of service Maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach to service while communicating with team members. Must be flexible and understands the importance of cooperation and teamwork. Quick decision making, able to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment with strong follow through and ongoing proactive team player We can train technical skills, but we cannot train attitude! You must come with a positive attitude and be goal-oriented self-starter Very much looking for someone to join a star team with our continuous growth in the industry within the metro area Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to work on ledges with exposure to heights. Must be able to hand-carry buckets of water weighing 20-25 pounds frequently and on a daily basis. Comfortable on ladders with reaching to service The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requirements Minimum of one (1) year horticultural experience preferred. Landscape- interior or exterior maintenance background preferred Pesticide application license is a plus or ability to gain certification Must have a valid Minnesota State Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record Experience using standard landscape equipment and tools properly and safely (pruners, pole saw, power shears, and other hand tools).
