PHOENIX, AZ — The man accused of breaking into a Phoenix home, barricading himself inside and shooting at police officers was arrested Tuesday, after an hours-long ordeal, according to Phoenix police. Jose Samaniego Chacon, Jr., 25, was arrested on suspicion of 17 counts of aggravated assault against a police officer, burglary and attempted armed robbery, police said. One police lieutenant sustained a minor injured in the shooting, when he was hit by bullet shrapnel, police said. It all began around 3 p.m. Tuesday, when Chacon is accused of attempting to rob a person inside a vehicle at near 32nd Street and Union Hills Drive, police said. The first police sergeant on scene saw Chacon fleeing and worked with officers set up a perimeter in an attempt to catch him, police said. While police were searching the neighborhood, Chacon is accused of breaking into a vacant house and shooting at the officers from inside of it, police said. He's accused of firing several rounds at the officers, and some of them returned fire as they tried to find cover, according to police. After several hours of negotiations with Phoenix Police Department's Special Assignments Unit, Chacon surrendered, police said. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the standoff before he was arrested, police said.
