TEMPE, AZ — A man who told police he accidentally shot his wife when she startled him in the middle of the night last Friday had his bond set at $750,000 bond Tuesday, according to police and court records. Christopher Hoopes, 36, was arrested on suspicion of second degree murder and discharging a firearm within city limits, court records show. He's accused of shooting his wife, Colleen Hoopes, 25, around 3:45 a.m. in their home in Tempe last Friday, according to police. She was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries, police said. Hoopes was to be released on electronically monitored house arrest if he posted bond, according to court documents. Colleen Hoopes was a ballet dancer who joined Ballet Arizona's professional company in 2017. She also taught for The School of Ballet Arizona. "We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of The School of Ballet Arizona Instructor & Company Dancer, Colleen Hoopes," the ballet school said in a Facebook post. "Her kindness and talent always shone through whether she was serving as a dancer, teacher, or friend."
