Description
CARTERSVILLE, GA — The body of a Douglasville man believed to have drowned in Allatoona Lake was recovered by authorities Tuesday afternoon.
Bartow County Fire & Emergency Services first responded to a report of a drowning late Monday night at the Main Street Grocery & Bait shop on Main Street in Acworth. The victim had been fishing and then jumped in for a swim. From there, he began to struggle and then went under, according to a statement from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Using sonar and a remote-operated vehicle, Georgia game wardens and Bartow first responders pulled the body of the 40-year-old out of the water at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday. He was identified as Francisco Ayala from Douglasville.
This is the second drowning at Allatoona Lake in a month. A 37-year-old male, Charles Matthews of Ellijay, drowned in the area near Old Highway 41 #3 Campground on April 29.
