WORCESTER, MA — The enemy of all who would drive 45 miles per hour down a narrow Worcester side street will soon return. The speed humps deployed across Worcester last summer during a test program will be reinstalled in June, Public Works and Parks Commissioner Jay Fink told city councilors Tuesday night. The city installed the humps along 10 streets last year. Two of those locations — Coolidge Road and Whitla Drive — will not get humps after resident complaints, but councilors will try to expand the humps to more sites later this summer citing enthusiasm for the traffic control devices. Councilors will submit more locations to Fink in the coming weeks, and those installations will begin later in the year. Worcester removes the humps during the winter months for plowing. The wide rubber humps force drivers to slow down to about 10 to 15 miles per hour, or risk a severe jolt and possible vehicle damage. Worcester only installs the humps along streets where the posted speed limit is 30 mph or less. Here's where you'll see speed humps return in about four weeks: Beechmont Street (District 1)Squantum Street (District 1)Alexander Road (District 2)Uxbridge Street (District 2)Crowningshield Road (District 3)Murray Avenue (District 4)Woodland Street (District 4) Coolidge Road (District 5)Moreland Green Drive (District 5)
