Press release from the City of Newport News: May 24, 2022 Memorial Day Victory Arch Ceremony Honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country during the Braxton-Perkins Post 25 American Legion and the City of Newport News' annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The event will be held on Monday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Victory Arch (25th Street and West Avenue) and is free and open to the public. Closings and schedules City Offices – closed Monday, May 30 Recreation Centers – closed Monday, May 30 Libraries – closed Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30 Garbage, recycling and bulk waste collections – No collections on Monday, May 30. All collections for the week will be delayed one day, i.e., Monday's collections will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday's on Wednesday, Wednesday's on Thursday, and Thursday's on Friday. Recovery Operations Center – closed Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30 (facility is normally closed on Sundays) Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (serves the residents of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County) – closed for adoptions on Monday, May 30; reunite lobby open from 8 am – 4 pm for owner surrenders, reclaims and stray drop offs.
