Description

NEW HAVEN, CT —Students from the Gateway Community College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa engaged in two end-of-semester events in mid-May. From May 9 through May 16, PTK conducted a toiletry drive to benefit Integrated Refugee and Immigration Services, an organization that helps support refugees in the Greater New Haven area. Christine Carey, PTK's Chair of Fundraising, delivered the items to IRIS, along with fellow PTK member Lois Pearce, on May 16. The organization was very grateful for their efforts in supporting newcomers to our community. Also, on May 15, Chapter President Mary Smith led a group of PTK members and their families on a hike up to the tower at Sleeping Giant State Park. Everyone had a great time, enjoying the fresh air and celebrating the end of the semester. Thanks to the PTK advisors, Dr. Lauren Doninger and Dr. Kristina Veselak, for helping the students coordinate these activities, and to staff members Monica Madeux and Jana Brady for accompanying the group to Sleeping Giant.
