Description
BROOKLINE, MA — Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey is hosting a free household document shredding event on June 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brookline Senior Center, located at 93 Winchester Street.
"One obvious way to deter identity theft is to destroy your sensitive documents rather than putting them at the curb for collection, where any passerby could take them," said Morrissey said in a statement. "We invite anyone interested in safely disposing of old financial and personal documents to join us between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on June 1."
There were nearly 1.4 million reports of identity theft received by the Federal Trade Commission in 2021, totaling almost $6 billion in losses, according to the DA's office.
"This is a simple step to help Brookline-area residents avoid being part of those statistics," Morrissey said.
