Windham Central Elementary School Students Tops In NH For Vocabulary

WINDHAM, NH — Upper elementary school students in Windham have won the Vocabulary Bowl for the second year in a row. Students at the Windham Central School, which serves upper elementary schools in the fifth and sixth grades, mastered 35,170 words during the 2021-2022 school year, according to Vocabulary.com. This is the second year in a row the school was tops in the state of New Hampshire. The Auburn Village School placed second with 14,166 words while the Henry W. Moore School in Candia came in third with 11,581. Portsmouth High School was fifth with 7,332 words mastered while Trinity Christian School came in sixth at 6,290. The Robert J. Lister Academy, also in Portsmouth, had 98 words mastered for 22nd place. More than 1 million students participated this year from more than 33,000 schools. More than 32.2 million words were mastered by students. The contest runs from the beginning of October to the end of April.
