Here are the top three stories today in Charleston: The Charleston City Council will discuss the results of the compensation survey during its meeting today. The report indicates that pay is a serious factor in the city's problem filling open positions. Currently, the Charleston Police Department is staffed at 90 percent, the Charleston Fire Department is staffed at 95 percent, and the non-sworn city staff is sitting at 75 percent staffed. (WCBD News 2)Charleston County's 911 Center has been recognized as an Accredited Center of Excellence by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch. The certification recognizes the center's high standards for emergency dispatching. The certification is the highest standard that a 911 Center can achieve. The department's newly released annual report indicates that the department devoted significant resources to addressing the national trend that began in 2019.
