Description
Learn some basic quilting fundamentals and techniques while making a tote bag using the turned-edge appliqué method. This class is for novice to intermediate beginners with some experience with sewing. Maybe you’ve started learning on YouTube and just need some hands on instructions or maybe you’re just starting a new hobby! Basic knowledge of how to operate your sewing machine is required. Participants who haven’t used a sewing machine are encouraged to take C.A.’s Machine Sewing Basics prior to taking this class. You will learn some introductory, hands-on, fundamental basics of pattern reading, color theory, preparing and cutting fabric, economy quilting, and sewing on a domestic sewing machine with a 1/4” seam allowance and decorative stitches. We will talk about some common quilting tools and how to use them. We will follow a basic pattern, but come with ideas as to what you’d like your appliqué shapes to be, and we will walk through template creation and construction. You will learn the art of turned-edge appliqué, one of many appliqué techniques, while constructing an entire tote bag from fabric.
