Description

Press release from the City of Ames: May 19, 2022 A draft of the Ames Urban Fringe Plan Update and a survey to solicit public opinion about the plan is available for public review and comment. The draft focuses on land located within two miles of Ames boundaries. The Plan includes policies and procedures related to rural subdivisions and annexation. The Fringe Plan Update is a cooperative planning effort between the City of Ames, City of Gilbert, and Story County. The most recent cooperative agreement for the area was approved in 2011. The update is collaborative effort to address planning priorities of each jurisdiction. The City of Ames priorities for the Plan Update are based upon recently adopted comprehensive plan, Ames Plan 2040, that included evaluation of annexation scenarios and growth policies. "Ames Plan 2040 is our city's blueprint for growth over the next 20 years and part of the planning efforts included evaluating the area around Ames. Working with Story County and Gilbert creates a shared vision for land outside our limits and near other communities," said Kelly Diekmann, Planning and Housing Director. The draft and a survey can be found on Story County's website, under Planning and Development and the Ames Urban Fringe Plan (http://www.storycountyiowa.gov/1243/Ames-Urban-Fringe-Plan). The survey will be available until June 14. This press release was produced by the City of Ames. The views expressed here are the author's own.
