Description

Press release from the Inver Grove Heights Schools: May 23, 2022 On May 20, the American Heart Association (AHA) organized a color run for Simley High School in collaboration with the Spartan Prevention, Advocacy, & Resources Coalition (SPARC). The color run gave students and staff a chance to come together, have fun running through colored powder along a trail, and celebrate the school year. The event also connected them with important information through SPARC and the AHA's Kids Heart Challenge, including the damage vaping can do to the heart. Although vaping is a concern for parents of teenagers throughout the country, MOST Simley students choose NOT to vape, according to the 2019 Minnesota Student Survey of 355 Simley students in grades 9 and 11. Parents and teens can learn more about vaping and get resources to help with addiction at SPARC's website, www.ighsparc.org. Parents and kids can also visit SPARC's website to join the coalition and SPARC positive change! Thank you to everyone who made the AHA and SPARC Color Run possible. The Positive Community Norms Grant that supports SPARC is funded by the Minnesota Department of Human Services Behavioral Health Division.
