Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: May 19, 2022 The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report. On May 19, 2022, just after 1:30 a.m., deputies received a radio call from a man asking for assistance. Deputies responded to the home at the 1200 block of Corto Lane in unincorporated El Cajon. Deputies arrived at the location and found eighty-eight-year-old Carolyn Jean Folkes deceased inside the home with trauma to her upper body. Deputies also contacted fifty-five-year-old Chase Folkes inside the home. Chase was taken to a local hospital by paramedics for an unknown complaint of pain. Deputies followed and stood by with Chase at the hospital. The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation. Chase was subsequently arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail for 187(a)PC - Murder. The circumstances and motivations of this incident are still under investigation. Investigators determined Chase is the son of Carolyn. Carolyn's next of kin have been notified. The Medical Examiner arrived and took custody of the decedent.
