FREMONT, CA — A 7-year-old Fremont boy who was killed Friday when he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle has been identified at Harit Patel. He was a first grade student at James Leitch Elementary School in the Warm Springs area.
Harit's classmates, teachers, and other staff members have been offered counseling to help cope with the tragedy.
"Fremont Unified's Crisis Intervention Team is serving the student's class and the school in coping with this tremendous loss," district public information officer Laura Forrest told Patch in an email, "the Team includes school staff (counselors, psychologists) and district personnel who have been specially trained to assist in crisis situations. Increased levels of individual and group counseling services are available to Leitch students and staff."
Students and staff elsewhere in the district who are also feeling grief or stress are encouraged to reach out to their site's counseling staff as needed.
Harit was hit by the vehicle at 3:45 p.m. in the 43000 block of Montrose Avenue, not far from Fremont Boulevard, in the Irvington District. Following the crash, the police department reported that the driver stopped and cooperated with investigating officers. An update on the investigation is not immediately available.
Harit's death was the second of three traffic related deaths in three days in Fremont. The first happened Thursday evening on Fremont Boulevard. The third was early Saturday on Mission Boulevard.
