ELMHURST, IL – For the last couple of months, the number of coronavirus patients at Elmhurst Hospital has ranged from one to a dozen. It's nowhere near the pandemic high of 105 in mid-January. In the last month, the hospital has recorded four coronavirus deaths. That's less than half the monthly average of 11 since the pandemic's beginning. Also, in the last month, the hospital has seen 84 coronavirus patients. That is lower than the pandemic monthly average of 117. As of Tuesday, the hospital reported that it was treating 12 coronavirus patients. Elmhurst Hospital serves an area far larger than Elmhurst. But the city's numbers are an indicator of what's happening. Last week, Elmhurst experienced 188 new coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department. That was a decrease from the previous week's 201. The city reached a weekly high of 599 in January.
